My Husbands ancestors were recruited by the Catholic clergy of St Andrews Church (now Catherdal ) to come and teach in Glasgow in the late 1840's They were Daniel McAleer and his wife Bridget Kane or McKane we think from Omagh Co Tyrone. Bridget's father was also a teacher. They brought four children with them and had another three after they arrived. As a family they collectively taught in the Catholic Schools of Scotland and North East England for over sixty years. What I would love to know is where in Ireland they would have been trained in those days. Daniel was always described as a Teacher of Classics or a School Master right up until he died.
