Shevlin of Castleblayney

Post by GeorgeFelix1 » Thu Jun 26, 2014 1:45 am

My great-great-grandfather, Denis Shevlin, was born about 1820 in the Castleblayney area and left around 1850 and settled in Albany, New York, where he was a blacksmith. His parents were named Denis & Mary. He married Catharine Rice and had a daughter Margaret before leaving. They came to Albany a couple of years later. Catharine's parents were Felix and Mary Rice. Denis had a brother Patrick and a sister Margaret who moved to Albany as well.

Shevlin seems to be a very common name at the time in Castleblayney, and there seems to have been a couple of Denis Shevlin's there at the time. However, I would appreciate any information which anyone could provide me on my family there, as it seems that I haven't had any luck with tracing it back any further.

Thank you.

George Felix Shevlin, IV
