Hello all,

brand new to the board so please be gentle! I am researching the history of the JOHNSTON branch of my family, which was present in Fivemiletown from at least 1830 (but probably a generation or more before that) until the 1910s, although other parts of the family with other surnames stayed in the area. I'm hoping to get a day at PRONI and down in Fivemiletown itself later this spring but any pointers as to good sources on-line where I can do some more background reading and research appreciated as I am now in England!

Thanks

Philip

I'm afraid I have no knowledge of JOHNSTON in Fivemiletown but am searching for DENISON / DENNISON records in Fivemiletown -- Do you have any suggestions where I might start?

If it helps at all, I have found the following on-line resources helpful:

http://www.failteromhat.com -- good Irish links: incl free access to Griffiths valuations

http://www.ulsterhistory.co.uk/links.htm -- links to Irish sites.

Ive just recently been contacted by a second cousin and were swapping information about the family which is great.. but Id like to find my grannies parents graves Mary Anne Maguire and John Maguire..as IM going back at New Year.

Hello Philip.

Have you looked at the 1901 census of Ireland On line. There is a Mary Johnston aged 60, who is a widow living in Main Street, Fivemiletown. There is also Mary Eliza Johnston aged 64 also a widow living with her two daughters Annie J aged 37 and Sophia aged 25 and her son Thomas aged 23. Both the daughters are seamstresses and the son is a carpenter.
