A family member recently gave me the following information about my g-grandfather.
"John McGuire came to this country (U.S.A.)from County Cavan (in 1868). He was descended from a long line of quarrymen and stonecutters who had been established at Enniskillen and Maguires Bridge in County Fermanagh."
I would appreciate any information which either supports or refutes this statement. After arriving here, he became involved in the granite industry. What stone was being quarried 1830-1870 in Fermanagh / Cavan? How did one become a stonecutter - apprentice?
