Dancing at the Crossroads

Post by Pat J Flynn » Mon May 19, 2008 9:15 pm

At the turn of the last century, Crossroads Dancing on the deck at Flynn,s hut in Corrinshigo, on the Monaghan Fermanagh border was one of the main social activities of the area. People young and old came to the dancing which became their weekly meeting place. Please confirm your memories/stories of ceili nights at the deck.

I can remember stories being told by my mother and aunts of when in their teenage years they travelled to Monagahnb from Liverpool to stay with their mother's brother and sister Peter and Sarah Ann Moorhead of Carrickenure. Apparently they were very protective of the girls but were happy if their friends in Clontibret/Carrickenure, Alice and Kathleen Kerr, kind of chaperoned them. They used to enjoy their ceili sessions at the local cropssroads dancing. My mother was born in 1906 so it was probably mid or lae 1910s they would go over to Monaghan.
